Boulevard, CA (91905) lies in the desert area of the Mountain Empire area of southeastern San Diego County. It is a rural area off State Route 94 and old Highway 80 near the US -Mexican border. Earliest inhabitants are the Cocopah and Kumeyaay Indians, leading to much cultural history and archeological findings. Those trailblazers crossing through the desert areas created trails through the trees for shade. In 1852, George McCain and his family settled in a valley later known as McCain Valley. Cattle did quite well in the area. Another person, George Ruby, started a ranch nearby, turning it into a small tourist area complete with post office and a store. Highway 80, built in 1917, made it easier for tourists to reach the small high desert communities such as Boulevard. The Manzanita Band of Diegueno Mission Indians has their headquarters in Boulevard.

Marie's Restaurant is in the La Posta Casino, smallest casino in San Diego County. Marie's produces a great breakfast and delicious Native American taco platter. The Sacred Rocks RV Park is named in respect of the cultural respect of the Native Americans for the land and all living things. It is an up to date park with showers, laundry, swimming pool, WiFi and areas for RV and tent camping, and offers hiking and biking opportunities, in addition to stargazing and a labyrinth.
