Swimming Pools and Spas:

Swimming pools, spas, and saunas are all great amenities to have that can help to manage your overall health. Swimming pools provide an excellent outlet for exercise and recreation, as swimming is an activity that works every major muscle group in the body. Not only does swimming get all of your muscles working, but it is also much safer and healthier for your muscles because of its low impact.

Swimming pools are ideal for people who are recovering from serious injuries, and must exercise their muscles and joints in an environment that won’t call for repeated impact. It helps for the maintenance of the body without the repeated strain of other, more wearying exercises, like running. Swimming pools combine all of the benefits of a total body workout with low impact in such a way as that it doesn’t cause any extra injury, and therefore prove to be very good additions to any public or private facility

Swimming Pool, Sauna, and Spa Materials and Tools:

Generally, the installations of pools, spas or saunas require many of the same tools and materials as other installations to a building. In particular, swimming pools require a lot of cement to fill in the base of the pool. This is to prevent water that will eventually be poured into the pool from escaping into the ground. There are also mechanisms required for circulating the water that will be needed in the installation of both swimming pools and saunas.

These building add-ons will help any exercise facility attract additional customers. It’s almost to the degree that people expect to have swimming pools and saunas in any such facility. Many people may in fact come to the facility specifically for that reason. Swimming pools in particular will draw people of all ages. 

If looking to add a swimming pool to a facility, it’s a good idea to have different sections of the swimming pool to accommodate people of all ages. Those swimmers who might be more advanced than the others will also appreciate the inclusion of a diving board. Swimming lanes are something that adults will generally want as well, and it’s important to keep these areas separate from the other areas of the pool, so that there aren’t complaints. Swimming pools also have the added benefit of allowing additional programs at a facility, such as swimming instruction, or swimming therapy. An important concern for swimming pools is to make sure that they are handicap accessible. Many zoning laws may prohibit the addition of a swimming pool if handicap facilities aren’t applied to the whole structure. For example, this might mean the facility will need to have ramps accessible to those in wheelchairs at the entrance of the property and throughout it. If a handicap-accessible property chooses to include a pool, the pool would have to include poles, or grab-bars for any handicapped persons, as well.

If your pool is losing two or more inches of water each week, an investigation is necessary. The most common pool leaks are between the skimmer and pool, which is easily fixed with pool putty. Look for leaks or cracks in cement and tears in vinyl. Check if there is a leak while the pool equipment is on; it may be a pressure side return leak or even check the backwash line for constant running water. Look around the pool for water spots. Finally, pool leaks can be very costly if the leak cannot be found.

Though there are thousands of different species, swimming pools have only seen a fraction of them. Algae spores can enter pools after a storm, wind or rain and even from someone’s bathing suit. It is a plant that multiplies very quickly especially in sunlight and increases pH levels. If not taken care of, black algae can actually stain floors; clog the filter and even harbor e-coli. Chlorine keeps algae from growing out of control; if discovered, algaecide can be used. Black and yellow algae are the toughest to get rid of. Black algae are ugly and must be scrubbed with pumice stones to eliminate it. Yellow, or mustard algae, is found in shady areas and is chlorine-resistant, making it difficult kill. Green algae are the most common in pools for green water and slime. Shock treatment works best for this type. Pink algae are slow to spread and easy to stop. Though if none of these other removal methods work, and algae recurs year after year, consider draining the pool and acid or pressure washing the walls.

Visualizing a pool in your backyard might be a lap pool with a grassy knoll and umbrella with chairs; or an octagon pool with a water slide; or an above ground pool with a cherry wood deck and stairs. There are decisions to be made when adding a large feature such as a swimming pool to your backyard. The pool may be in-ground or aboveground. Built-in ground pools can be customized to your liking with much room for creativity, shaped as a lagoon, figure eight or simple rectangle; however, aboveground pools only have several options but are cost and timesaving. There are many shapes and sizes of an in-ground pool. Large pools can reach 34 feet long and 20 feet wide; small pools can be 14 to 28 feet long and 12 feet wide, with a depth ranging from 3 to 8 feet deep. If the budget is tight, a smaller pool with all of the essentials can be just as good as a large pool with none. Pools can be made of vinyl, fiberglass and concrete. Vinyl is reinforced steel that can be patterned; fiberglass is a shell that is installed; and concrete can be finished with many touches, such as pebbles, glass or marble. Many coping or decking selections are available such as concrete, brick, shullock, stone lock, and red pavers. There can be walkways, landscaping, a fountain, waterslide, diving board, or spa.
