Purchasing new shutters for your home or business is a major investment, so you’ll want to make sure your shutters stand the test of time for many years to come.
While a shutter warranty can help protect you from future maintenance and replacement costs, it isn’t a full-proof solution. Some warranties, if stated at all, will deem that most repairs are due to standard wear and tear, and therefore, won’t be covered. Or if the company goes out of business, the warranty will obviously no longer be valid.
So what can you as the customer do to protect yourself? The best solution is to buy high quality and well-constructed shutters from the beginning. While this will cost more at the beginning, you will end up saving in the long run by extending the life of your investment.
Also ask these important questions before choosing a shutter warranty.
- What will it cost for an in-home repair if my shutters break or get damaged?
- What damages are considered to fall under the category of typical wear and tear?
- What does a “lifetime” warranty mean?
- What is covered and what is not?
And, buyer beware, if the warranty does not completely cover service calls or costs to ship the product back to the factory, it isn’t a good warranty. So keep shopping around.
